Night Guards in Boynton Beach, FL

What are Night Guards?

Custom-designed mouth guards and nightguards are made of flexible plastic and molded to fit the shape of your teeth. Night guards are designed to fit your mouth and protect your teeth while allowing a full-night of sleep. Night guards are often used to treat Bruxism, or grinding of teeth while you sleep. Simply put, the night guard protects your teeth from the pressure exerted by your jaw while you grind or clench during sleep.

Symptoms that may be Resolved by a Night Guard

  • Ongoing pain in the jaw
  • Ear pain
  • Facial fatigue
  • Tension headaches
  • Sensitivity of the teeth
  • Worn-down teeth enamel
  • Damage or wear to your teeth

Who should use Night Guards?

Nightguards are recommended for patients who clench or grind their teeth at night to protect their teeth. Guards generally last 3-10 years.

If you have decided a guard is right for you, we will take an impression of your teeth that will be sent to a lab to make a custom-fit guard for you.

What is the Night Guard Process?

The first step in the process is your dentist or specialist will take an exact impression of your teeth. This impression will then be sent to a lab in the form of a plaster mold. Once the lab has made the night guard, you will return to your dentist’s office where they will ensure it fits, at which time you can begin using your night guard and sleeping with a protected set of teeth!

Taking Care of your Night Guard

Just as taking care of your teeth each day is very important, so is cleaning and taking care of your night guard. The dentists and professionals here at Smile Boynton suggest washing the guard before and after each use and cleaning it with a soft-bristled toothbrush. We also suggest you store your night guard in a breathable case or container to allow it to properly dry without growing mold in a moist environment. Smile Boynton also recommends a deep clean of your night guard at least 2x per week. To conduct a deep clean of your night guard, clean it with very warm water and antibacterial soap to remove any bacteria.
