Teeth Whitening in Boynton Beach

What is Teeth Whitening?

Teeth whitening is a popular cosmetic dental procedure to make your teeth whiter and brighter, and therefore more attractive. Having whiter teeth is considered the top concern for most patients. Bleaching can be used to whiten stained and discolored teeth, or simply to enhance a dull smile. Either way, tooth whitening is a safe and relatively painless procedure for most patients. Our office offers tray whitening.

What is Tray Whitening?

Tray whitening is a less-expensive, (more effective, longer lasting) and convenient at-home whitening treatment. An impression is taken at the dentist’s office in order to create a customized clear tray. Trays are generally ready within a few days, depending, and the patient must follow instructions for how to apply the gel in the trays and how often to use it. A whitening gel is then inserted into the trays prior to being worn and then applied to the teeth. Maximum whitening results and a dazzling smile are achieved at the end of the set treatment period. An occasional treatment can be used to maintain the new smile.

Please consult us about use of over-the-counter whitening treatments.

How Does Teeth Whitening Work?

Teeth whitening focuses on the enamel of the natural tooth. Therefore, it is critical that we evaluate the rest of your teeth, especially any that have had restorations done such as fillings or crowns, to ensure that they are in good health too. If any of the restorations need to be replaced, they should be done so after the bleaching so all of the teeth are the same shade of white. When the carbamide peroxide gel is applied to the enamel of the teeth, it works to treat and whiten any existing stains of discoloration.

How Long does Teeth Whitening Last?

The effects of teeth whitening can last up to 5-10 years, however, most patients choose to “touch up” their teeth every year or two in order to keep them their whitest!

Does Teeth Whitening Cause any Harm to your Teeth?

Not only is teeth whitening safe, it’s actually good for your teeth and gums. The active ingredient, carbamide peroxide, is actually anti-bacterial and bacteria is the main culprit in causing cavities and gum disease.
